Animas Well Drilling FAQ
FAQ
Animas Well Drilling – Frequently Asked Questions
Below you’ll find clear, straightforward answers to the questions we hear most often from homeowners, ranchers, and businesses across La Plata County and the greater Four Corners region. If you don’t see your question, give us a call—our team is always happy to talk water.
Yes. Every new well in Colorado must be permitted through the State Engineer’s office (Colorado Division of Water Resources). Animas Well Drilling handles the entire application process—including site mapping and completion reports—so you stay compliant without the paperwork headache.
Depth varies with geology, but in the Durango area most domestic wells fall between 150 and 600 feet. We review area well logs, study local stratigraphy, and use on-site observations to estimate depth—and we keep you updated as we drill so there are no surprises.
Total cost depends on depth, casing diameter, steel prices, pump size, and site access. After a free site visit we’ll give you a fixed, written estimate that covers drilling, casing, grouting, well development, pump install, and disinfection—no hidden line items.
Most residential wells are drilled, cased, developed, and disinfected in two to three days once our rig is on site. Add another day if pump installation, trenching, or power line runs are needed. Permit lead-time averages three to four weeks, so schedule early in the busy season (April–November).
Absolutely. We collect samples for certified lab analysis and explain the results in plain language. If minerals, bacteria, or metals exceed safe limits, we can coordinate softening, reverse-osmosis, UV, or iron filtration systems through local water-treatment partners.
Yes. From minor pressure-switch swaps to complete submersible pump pull-and-replace jobs, our crew services all major brands. We also install variable-frequency drive (VFD) controls for energy savings and steady pressure.
We accept all major credit cards and work with regional lenders who specialize in water-system financing. Ask us about low-interest options that spread the cost of drilling, pump equipment, and treatment over manageable monthly payments.
Our modern top-head rigs require a 20 ft × 40 ft workspace. We lay down mats when needed, contain cuttings, and clean the site before we leave. If trenching is required, we backfill and rough-grade the line. Most yards look “weekend-project” tidy by the time we’re done.
Domestic wells in the Animas and Pine River basins typically produce 5–15 gallons per minute, but fractured-bedrock zones can deliver significantly more. We air-lift test every well so you know the sustainable flow rate before investing in a pump.
Yes. From high-capacity municipal supply wells to vineyard irrigation wells, we size casing, screens, and pumps to match your production goals and Colorado water rights.
Our primary service area includes La Plata county and parts of Montezuma and Archuleta Counties. Call for an out-of-area quote.
We recommend a basic inspection and water-quality test every 12 months, plus a pump performance check every 3–5 years. Preventive maintenance is far cheaper than an emergency pull in mid-winter.
Many flow issues are caused by pump wear, screen clogging, or mineral buildup—not the aquifer itself. We diagnose the cause, redevelop or rehab the well if feasible, and discuss deepening or twinning only as a last resort.
