About Us

Our Story

Founded in 2005, Animas Well Drilling grew out of one simple belief: every family, ranch, and business in Southwest Colorado deserves dependable, great-tasting water. What began with a single rig and the determination of owner Chris Eckhardt has matured into a full-service company trusted across La Plata County and the wider Four Corners region. Two decades later, our A+ BBB rating still rests on the same principles we started with—straight talk, quality craftsmanship, and a handshake you can count on.

What We Do

From first test hole to final glass of clear water, we handle the entire water-system life-cycle:

  • Well & Gallery Drilling – domestic, irrigation, municipal, and high-capacity commercial wells.

  • Pump Sales, Installation & Repair – submersibles, constant-pressure VFD systems, and troubleshooting.

  • Cistern Design & Installation – above- and below-ground solutions for remote or low-yield sites.

  • Water Treatment & Filtration – iron, hardness, bacteria, and taste/odor removal through our sister company H2O: The Water Store. animaswelldrilling.com

Whether you need a brand-new well, a 300-foot pump pull in mid-winter, or a quick water-quality test, one call covers it.

Why Choose Us

Certified drillers, licensed pump installers, and water-treatment technicians make up our small but mighty crew. Most have ten or more Rocky Mountain winters under their belts; all share a commitment to safety and continuing education.

Living on well water ourselves, we guard the Animas, Pine, and Florida aquifers as if they were our own backyard—because they are. We grout to full depth, reclaim drilling fluids responsibly, and recommend treatment options that protect both human health and the watershed.

We roll out of Durango every morning to jobs in La Plata, Archuleta, Montezuma, Dolores, and San Juan Counties, and we frequently mobilize to northwest New Mexico and southeast Utah for larger agricultural and municipal projects.

If you’re planning to build, fighting low flow, or simply curious about your water quality, call 970-259-4700 or drop us a note. We’ll meet you on-site, walk the ground, and craft a clear path to clean, reliable water—for the next twenty years and beyond.
